Strengthening communities

Village Media is building the future of connected local communities.

Village Media is a digital-first community impact organization with local journalism at its core.

Infographic-style circular layout showing the five pillars of Village Media: Inform (local news & data); Connect (people & places); Grow (thriving economy); Support (local institutions); Empower (residents & voice)

Through trusted local reporting, civic engagement, community technology, local business support and meaningful partnerships, we help communities become more informed, connected, supported, empowered and economically resilient.

Our work is built around five pillars:
Inform. Connect. Grow. Support. Empower.

Together, these pillars form an innovative model for sustainable local journalism and community impact.

The OrilliaMatters story.

When Orillia lost its daily newspaper, Village Media invested in local journalism by launching a new newsroom to ensure the community continued to have reliable, timely and trusted local news.

Within a month of the paper closing, we launched OrilliaMatters. I could tell right away we were onto something here.
—Dave Dawson, OrilliaMatters editor
